Business and Social Sciences provides a wide range of ICTS facilities (Internet access, possibility of hiring computers etc).

Being PhD student at Aarhus University, Business and Social Sciences:

PhD students are employed on a full-time basis for three years. A PhD student in Denmark does not pay university fees. PhD students at Aarhus School of Business and Social Sciences work under almost the same terms as other research staff, i.e. they have their own office space with a computer, incl. Internet access, email, phone etc., as well as access to secretarial assistance etc. Moreover, expenses in connection with the scientific work are covered, e.g. participation in research courses and academic conferences in Denmark and abroad.

A PhD student in Denmark must complete an individually planned PhD programme course within the relevant research area and conduct a research project under the supervision of experienced senior researchers. The PhD student is also expected, as part of the programme, to spend some time (up to six months), with coverage of travel and accommodation expenses, at another – often foreign – research institution. During the programme, the PhD student is further expected to gain teaching experience within the subject area as well as experience with other forms of dissemination of research results.

Research at Aarhus University, Business and Social Sciences:

Research is the foundation of all the activities at the university and it covers the entire spectrum of basic research, applied research, strategic research and research based consultancy for public sector decision-makers. As a researcher you will furthermore be lecturing and hereby deliver research based education to students.

Business and Social Sciences holds the position of Denmark’s largest business school, with considerable academic scope that will be used to strengthen Aarhus University’s efforts in research, talent development, knowledge exchange and education. This main academic area is a merger of the former Aarhus School of Business and the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Residence and work permit

As an international employee at Aarhus University coming from outside the EU, you will need to obtain a residence and work permit before moving to Denmark.

If you have been granted a residence and work permit as a researcher or research trainee, then your spouse, registered partner or cohabiting partner, as well as any children under the age of 18 who are living at home with you, are also eligible for residence permits. However, your family members must be able to support themselves and you must live together in Denmark at the same address. Your spouse, registered partner or cohabiting partner is allowed to work full-time for the entire period his or her permit is valid.

Please be aware that the Danish immigration authorities require documentation of your ability to support yourself financially during the length of your stay.

You are required to submit your employment contract or offer of employment – including terms of employment and salary agreement, or your letter of invitation – to the Danish immigration authorities.

A processing fee will normally need to be paid when a foreign national applies for a residence permit, an extension of a residence permit and for a permanent residence permit in the areas of family reunification, studies and work. Furthermore, a processing fee will normally need to be paid if a person wishes to appeal a decision or request a reopening of a case.
